PRE-RAPHAELITE ART
The Pre-Raphaelite movement was a reform group of artists and poets founded in 1849. Their main objective in art was to reject the dramatic, artificial Mannerist painting styles succeeding Raphael and Michelangelo (hence the term "Pre-Raphaelite") and to create more genuine, humble representations of their subjects. They painted brightly-colored, evenly-lit pictures with a particular emphasis on realism, elaborate detail, medieval history, symbolism, and nature.

I can’t pick an absolute favorite because the movement spanned so many different approaches and techniques as it changed over time. Each artist visualized & adapted the Pre-Raphaelite principles in a different way; many PR paintings are wildly different from one another because of how the artist approached the subject and applied the rules. The “rules” themselves also went through very distinct phases as other movements arose & became increasing influences. I’m constantly adding to that list, though. Each one is unique in capturing the Pre-Raphaelite essence and it’s so hard to pick just one.
